Personally I’m really glad they got this fool out of Glendora. GLENDORA — DEA agents and Glendora police raided a medical marijuana dispensary on Arrow Highway Friday, seizing marijuana and cash and arresting two men for unrelated warrants, authorities said.
Heavily armed officials arrived at the Glendora Healing Center, 915 W. Arrow Highway, about 11 a.m. and forced their way in when a knock at the locked door was not immediately answered, Glendora police Lt. Tim Staab said.
“There was a joint investigation with Glendora P.D,” said DEA spokesman Jose Martinez. “Obviously, there was enough to obtain a federal warrant.”
Investigators continued to process evidence Friday, in order to turn it over to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution, he said.
Officers and agents detained about seven customers and employees as they collected what ultimately amounted to more than 12 pounds of pot and 720 grams of marijuana-infused edible products, officials said.
Additionally, investigators seized about $5,000 in cash from the dispensary and an ATM machine inside, as well as “evidence of retail sales,” Staab said.
The lieutenant described the operation as “a thriving business.”
No arrests were made in connection with marijuana sales during the raid, however two men were arrested because of outstanding traffic warrants, DEA spokesman Jose Martinez said.
Agents were continuing to look into who was responsible for the marijuana dispensary, Martinez said.
Charles Fagan, who police said owns and leases out the property, declined to comment.
As the investigation continues, Staab said, it’s possible that DEA officials will seek to seize the property under federal law allowing properties used in drug crimes to be confiscated from the owners.
The dispensary opened in recent months and has since been sent written notices that Glendora has a city ordinance banning such establishments, Staab said. The ordinance, however, is being challenged in court, and the dispensary kept its doors open.
As the police investigation continued, DEA officials became aware of the dispensary and requested to take over, culminating in Friday’s search warrant, Staab said.
Because marijuana remains illegal federally, even those who operate in compliance with state medical marijuana laws such as California’s 1994 ballot initiative remain open to federal prosecution.
Earlier this week, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, issued a statement criticizing the federal government for cracking down on medical marijuana dispensaries in state’s that have medical marijuana laws.
“Sixteen states, including our home state of California, and the District of Columbia have adopted medicinal marijuana laws — most by a vote of the people,” Pelosi said Wednesday.
“I have strong concerns about the recent actions by the federal government that threaten the safe access of medicinal marijuana to alleviate the suffering of patients in California, and undermine a policy that has been in place under which the federal government did not pursue individuals whose actions complied with state laws providing for medicinal marijuana.”

Nancy Pelosi Releases Statement Defending Medical Marijuana

After the residents of San Francisco urged their congresswoman, Senate Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, to speak out against President Obama’s seeming reversal of policy about medical marijuana, Pelosi has responded with a strong and clear statement supporting states’ rights to enforce their own medical marijuana policy and calling question to the President’s actions.

Here is the full statement:

Access to medicinal marijuana for individuals who are ill or enduring difficult and painful therapies is both a medical and a states’ rights issue. Sixteen states, including our home state of California, and the District of Columbia have adopted medicinal marijuana laws – most by a vote of the people.

I have strong concerns about the recent actions by the federal government that threaten the safe access of medicinal marijuana to alleviate the suffering of patients in California, and undermine a policy that has been in place under which the federal government did not pursue individuals whose actions complied with state laws providing for medicinal marijuana.

Proven medicinal uses of marijuana include improving the quality of life for patients with cancer, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, and other severe medical conditions.

I am pleased to join organizations that support legal access to medicinal marijuana, including the American Nurses Association, the Lymphoma Foundation of America, and the AIDS Action Council.

Medicinal marijuana alleviates some of the most debilitating symptoms of AIDS, including pain, wasting, and nausea. The opportunity to ease the suffering of people who are seriously ill or enduring difficult and painful therapies is an opportunity we must not ignore.

For these reasons, I have long supported efforts in Congress to advocate federal policies that recognize the scientific evidence and clinical research demonstrating the medical benefits of medicinal marijuana, that respects the wishes of the states in providing relief to ill individuals, and that prevents the federal government from acting to harm the safe access of medicinal marijuana provided under state law. I will continue to strongly support those efforts.

Pelosi’s statement hits on the points that I’m pretty sure the people wanted her to. She outlines that medical marijuana has been approved in a decent percentage of states and that it remains a states’ rights issue. Essentially, the federal government has no business getting involved in the state issues. Pelosi uses the words “strong concern” to describe Obama’s actions, and she has every right to feel this way, as she notes that it “undermines a policy that was in place.”

Pelosi finishes by voicing her personal support of medical marijuana and her view that the nation as a whole should adopt policies recognizing the medicinal benefits of marijuana. Pelosi leaves little for interpretation in her statement, and the next question is to what effect this will have on the current wave of federal raids.

The Tennessean reported last night that popular musician Wiz Khalifa and a friend were busted in Nashville after police received complaints of the strong odor of cannabis apparently emanating from Wiz’s hotel room (I’m shocked!). After unsuccessfully trying to ditch a blunt out a window upon police entry, the pair were busted.

Every 38 seconds in America, another cannabis consumer is busted on ganja charges (850,000 per year), and with a pro-cannabis profile as high as Wiz’s (heck, hours before he was busted he posted a photo to Instagram depicting his branded rolling papers next to what looks like some excellent cannabis!) whether it was his super stinky stash or Wiz’s number as a cannabis consumer simply came up to become yet another tragic statistic in the 74-year old failed Cannabis Prohibition.
